Mineral regime and mining legislation

Gabon is a major petroleum producer, with crude oil accounting for a significant portion of the country’s exports, and it is the third largest producer of manganese in the world. Iron ore, gold, uranium and diamonds are also prominent, whereas potential for many other mineral commodities such as niobium and phosphates have been indicated. All useful mineral substances occurring under the surface are the property of the state. A new mining code was enacted in July 2000, under which exclusive rights are granted by the Ministry of Mines, Energy and Petroleum.

Benzu’s interest

Benzu has lodged prospecting applications over three areas identified for their iron ore and gold potential.
